Looking for a financial adviser in Barcelona?
Before you sit down with anyone, understand how they get paid. Most “free advice” lives off placing commission-paying products with you. mPF was born in Barcelona to offer the other thing: the grip of an accredited adviser, by subscription, with nobody selling you anything.
How a financial adviser actually gets paid
Two models coexist in Spain. The tied or “free” adviser earns retrocessions: commission from the bank or fund manager for placing their funds, pension plans or insurance with you — their incentive is to sell to you, not to advise you. The independent adviser charges explicit fees (from around 150 EUR a session up to over 1,000 EUR for a full plan) and, under the European MiFID II rules, cannot keep retrocessions. The first comes out “free” and usually costs you dearly; the second is honest, but few households pay for it on an ongoing basis.
- “Free” almost always means: paid by commission on what they place with you
- Genuinely independent = explicit fees, no retrocessions
- The awkward question that settles it: how exactly do you get paid?
The third way: the adviser in your pocket
mPF exists because its founders dislike both classic routes: neither placing commission-paying products with you, nor selling you a course that promises to make you rich. The app connects your accounts, gives you the diagnosis and the plan an adviser would give you — net worth, debts, savings, priorities — and you pay only a subscription, the way you pay for Netflix or Prime. Nobody earns anything for recommending a product to you, because we sell none.
- Diagnosis and action plan from your real data
- A transparent subscription: you know exactly what you pay
- Zero conflict of interest: we do not sell financial products
There is an accredited adviser behind it (not an algorithm on the loose)
mPF is run by Juan Marcos López González from Barcelona: Financial Adviser, Mortgage Adviser, Insurance Broker and Financial Educator and Planner accredited by the AEPF — the qualifications required to practise in each of those areas. He chose to channel that knowledge into an app precisely so that it would not depend on selling you anything. And if your case needs a human conversation, the first consultation is free and with no obligation.
- Methodology designed by an accredited adviser (AEPF)
- A genuinely free consultation: no product waiting at the end
- Everything on this site is signed, with credentials in plain sight
Who is it for (and who is it not for)?
If you are looking for someone to manage your portfolio and place products with you, we are not your shop — and we wish you luck with the commissions. mPF is for people who want to understand and control their own money: households and professionals in Barcelona (and anywhere else) who want the clear picture, the priorities in order and a plan they can carry out themselves, with help when they ask for it.
- Yes: control, clarity and your own plan with expert backing
- No: delegated management with products and commissions in between
- Start with the free diagnosis and decide from data
Frequently asked questions
How much does a financial adviser in Barcelona cost?
An independent adviser usually charges between 150 and 300 EUR a session, and a full financial plan can go over 1,000 EUR, with annual reviews on top. The “free” adviser at a bank or insurer does not invoice you: they earn commission on the products they place with you, which you end up paying through management fees for years. mPF costs a transparent monthly subscription, with neither of those two things.
What is the difference between an independent and a tied adviser?
The independent one charges explicit fees and, under MiFID II, cannot keep commission on the products they recommend. The tied one (or the “free” one at the provider) lives off that commission, so their advice competes with their incentive. The key question before hiring anyone: “how exactly do you get paid?”
Can an app replace a face-to-face adviser?
For most situations — getting your finances in order, tracking spending, planning saving and debt, seeing your net worth — yes, and with an advantage: it works from your real data every day, not from the snapshot on the day of the meeting. For specific complex decisions (particular tax questions, inheritance, edge cases) a human professional adds something; that is why mPF offers a free consultation and does not try to sell you hours.
Is there a catch to the free consultation?
There is no product waiting at the end, because we do not sell financial products: it is our way of letting you see the mPF approach with your real case on the table. If you want to carry on afterwards, the app has its subscription; if not, you walk away with an hour of clarity for free.
Do you only cover Barcelona?
mPF was born in Barcelona and the consultation can be in person or online, so it makes no difference where you are reading this from. The app works the same across Spain: it connects to more than 200 Spanish banks and providers.
